TIU Campus Mentor

Volunteer Job Description

Campus Mentors invest in the lives of high school and middle school Christian club leaders who want coaching and help to reach their public school with the good news of Jesus and to grow as Christian leaders. Campus Mentors get a mission field of a whole public high school​, up to several thousand students​. ​The Campus Mentor's job is to empower​ by​ coach​ing​ and mentor​ing​ the Christian club leaders to be missionaries at their school, so that lost students can be awakened to the love of Christ this year!

The Essence of Your Role
A Campus Mentor volunteers about 5-7 hours a week

Meet with your Christian club leadership team – Weekly // 1.5-2 hours
Invest in the lives of students, help them grow in their walk with Christ, develop them in their Christian leadership, pray with them and equip them to reach their school for Christ through 4 Campus Objectives:

  1. Reach Every Student
  2. Mobilize Christian Students
  3. Mobilize Christian Community
  4. Develop Future Leaders

Go witnessing with your students – 1-2 times a month // 1.25 hours each
Teach students how to share the gospel and their testimony. Then take the students witnessing throughout the year. (It’s okay if you don’t know how to do this; all Campus Mentors receive witnessing trained)

Attend your school’s Outreach Week events – Approximately 5 events per semester // About 1 hour each
Be there for students at their Outreach Week events - Each Christian Club leadership team hosts Outreach weeks. You as their mentor get to support and equip them on site at their schools to encourage and coach them.

Be a part of the team – Weekly Team Meetings // 1-2 hours
Be in community with other Campus Mentors on your team, receive ongoing training for your role, be encouraged, worship, pray together.

Grow as a Leader – Weekly meetings with your supervisor // 1 hour
Weekly meeting with your supervisor to receive personal support, training, prayer, so that you grow in leadership and can be ​thoroughly​​ equipped to coach and mentor students.

Periodic Responsibilities

  • Attend your school’s Christian club meeting a few times each semester.
  • Help fundraise for the mission. Options, decided by state, include:
    • Send out 10+ support letters to help fund this mission. We provide all the materials.
    • Fundraise and participate in Hike for High Schools.
  • (OPTIONAL) Lead a discipleship group for students who respond to the gospel at your school.

Key Events

  • Fall Training Weekend – Receive foundational training to equip you in your role as a NSP campus mentor. ​Bond and get to know your Campus Mentor team you​ are serving with this year! Plus, ​you will ​enjoy worship, Bible teaching and prayer to start the year right (One weekend in early Fall. Cost Varies: $50 - $75. Financial help available. )
  • Fall Training Conference – Spend time with the students you​ will​ be mentoring! Give foundational training to​ effectively​ launch the students in their goal of reaching their campus with the good news of Jesus. (One Saturday in October.)
  • NSP Winter Retreat – Be refreshed, encouraged, pray and worship together, and prepare to launch into the Spring semester. (One weekend in January. Cost Varies: $50 - $100.)
