Banquet Coordinator

There are over 17 million high school students in America today, and most of them still need to meet Jesus Christ. This year, with all our best efforts, we can reach maybe 200,000 of those students. That’s amazing, but we’re nowhere close to accomplishing our mission.

About the National School Project
The National School Project is a rapidly growing ministry working to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to every high school in California, Illinois, and the nation. Our tagline – ’til every student has heard – is wide open and huge, and that’s how we operate. For the past 14 years, our team has been learning how to equip high school students as the leaders of a movement to reach the next generation for Christ, and we’ve seen amazing success. All glory to God, it’s been a wild ride and a thrilling place to work. Over the last few years, we started teams at 4 colleges and universities in Chicago, IL. Now, in addition to our home base in Southern California, we’re expanding through central California and the Midwest. In the coming years, we’ll be opening teams in several new states to coach students at hundreds of high schools to share the good news of Jesus Christ with their friends. Our growth is fueled by staff that love the gospel and are willing to trust God to raise the support to fund their positions (see more on that below).

Banquets are Crucial  Banquets are our biggest fundraisers of the year and they help raise a large percentage of our budget. They provide great face to face interactions with our donors and partners, encouraging our existing network as they hear stories and testimonies, and giving them ways to deepen their involvement by hosting and sponsoring a table. Banquets are crucial, as they create momentum in our key areas and inspire ownership among our staff, volunteers, and community members. You’ll take point to make sure those events stay high quality.

About the Job  The Banquet Coordinator will implement the plans and strategies for our fundraiser banquets, supporting the work of NSP’s Development Director. Located in our office in Whittier, CA, you’ll have a few main functions:

  • Oversee banquet logistics
    • Manage our staff, empowering them in their roles to invite guests and secure speakers
    • Coordinate all guest registration
    • Communicate with volunteers
  • Help with other events that mobilize our supporters

Day to day responsibilities: You’ll work out of our office in Whittier, CA, alongside our Campus Ministry team and National Office staff. Most of your time will be in the office, but you’ll head out several times per month to scout locations, meet with vendors, collaborate with our volunteers, or run other errands. You’ll report directly to the Development Director, but also provide services for the Campus Ministry staff and collaborate with the Development staff team.

Job Requirements Hey, future Banquet Coordinator, let me tell you about yourself!

  • You’re thorough and logistical, able to think through the 100 details needed to pull off something seemingly simple.
  • You’re relational. You’ll be in close contact with lots of our key supporters, and you’ll help get them more involved through banquets.
  • You have lots of initiative. As you learn, you’ll begin to see things that need doing and you’ll just do them.
  • You're influential. As you help staff and volunteers navigate through their part of banquet preparation, you'll be direct, yet empowering, willing to help where needed.
  • You aim to please. Among the things that bring you joy is working and reworking a product or a process to satisfy someone else. Exacting standards don’t frustrate you; they motivate you.
  • You’re highly responsible and follow through on all projects.
  • You are praying for the great commission, and can’t think of a better way to be part of the mission of Christ than by helping NSP’s team effectively advance the kingdom for years to come.
  • Your writing is clear and crisp, and often fun, but you can turn on a professional tone when it counts.
  • You’re a practical planner - the one among your friends who figures out how the whole group will get where you’re going, and exactly when you need to leave.
  • You have a ‘yes attitude’ and thrive on finding ways to make people happy and their jobs easier.
  • You’re friendly and cheerful to talk to, especially on the phone, and you don’t get flustered too easily.
  • You have a good sense of humor because work is fun.
  • Large spreadsheets full of names and numbers aren’t daunting for you. In fact, you kind of enjoy a morning spent with a cup of coffee and a good spreadsheet.
  • You like tackling new projects, figuring out the best way to accomplish something you’ve never done before and taking it from start to finish.
  • You understand that administration is a tool to accelerate the great commission, not the point of ministry.
  • Experience: Event planning experience in some form is required; church or non-profit event planning is a huge plus.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required

In addition, you have the qualities we look for in every NSP staff member:

  • You are an Evangelical Christian who loves the gospel and evangelism
  • You’re a wise and mature believer who knows the Word and does what it says
  • You’re a quick learner in all areas, and eager to learn
  • You have high moral integrity, emotional health, social awareness and spiritual maturity
  • You work with enthusiasm and excellence
  • You are a strong planner and clear written communicator
  • You possess high initiative and constantly seek self-improvement

Support Raising

All NSP staff raise personal support, and we think that’s a really good thing. Just like missionaries about to be sent across the world, your first assignment on NSP staff will be to personally contact churches, friends, and family, and gather a team of monthly financial supporters to invest in the ministry God is leading you into. We’ll give you tons of training, encouragement, and ongoing coaching. If you like everything else and feel like this could be a good fit for you, do not let support raising stop you; let’s talk first.

The big question: Is this the mission field for you?

You may have a lot of questions. This may be unlike most jobs you've considered. That's OK. The most important question - the one you should pray about, and the one that we'll be asking - is whether or not you can get excited and remain deeply motivated to reach this generation of students for Christ. Without the gospel, 3.3 million students are graduating high school every year, lost and without hope in the world. We want to fix that. Is this your mission field?

If you don't know for sure, that's OK. Get started with the process and let's talk. Just fill out the short form, and we'll be in touch.
